  PEG is a laxative used to treat constipation and prepare the intestines for medical procedures like colonoscopies. PEG is also used in drug formulations to increase the solubility and bioavailability of weakly water-soluble drugs.

  PEG is used as a surfactant, emulsifier, cleansing agent, humectant, and skin conditioner.

• Other industrial uses

  PEG is used as a heat transfer fluid in electronic testers, a polar stationary phase for gas chromatography, and to preserve waterlogged wood and other organic artifacts.

• Chemical properties

  PEG is a nonionic, odorless, neutral, lubricating, nonvolatile, and nonirritating polymer. It is soluble in water and many organic solvents.
